Soulblight Gravelords Warscroll Review: Wight King and Wight King on Skeletal Steed

In this video TheJTJ reviews the Warscroll for the Wight King and Wight King on Skeletal Steed. I cover their abilities and discuss some tactics for each.

Wight King

  • Cost
    • 115
  • Notes:
    • Deathrattle
    • Hero
  • Max wound output:
    • 12 + 4MW
  • Average wound output:
    • 3
  • Thoughts:
    • OK damage, but the D3 makes him swingie
  • The Good
    • +3 save
    • Deathrattle
    • GG as Battleline if Gen
    • Cheap Hero
    • OK in CC
  • The Bad
    • Slow, 5 wounds
    • Command ability is not bad, wish it was a bit better.
  • Thoughts
    • Great thematic Hero.
    • All around ok, but nothing great.
    • Price is solid for a 3+ Hero
    • Can dish out some damage is you roll good.
    • If you want battleline GG you need this guy.
    • For 25 points more you get a Vampire Lord. Better bang for your buck.
    • Sooo Slow. You will need to run him to keep up.
  • Unit Rating
    • B
    • There is not much to hate about him, but not much to like. His Command ability is …OK, but could be soo much better, How about RR all?
    • While not the worst Hero in the game, there are several more that would be better for a few points more.
    • All this said, if you want to run GG as battline then you need him.

Wight King Skeletal Steed

  • Cost
    • 130
  • Notes:
    • Deathrattle
    • Hero
  • Max wound output:
    • 11
    • 3MW from charge
  • Average wound output:
    • 2
  • Thoughts:
    • Low average damage is made up from the 3 MW on charge.
  • The Good
    • Deathrattle
    • GG as Battleline if Gen
    • Cheap Hero
    • OK in CC
    • More wounds than Foot WK
    • 12” move
  • The Bad
    • Command Ability could be better
    • Does not hit that hard
  • Unit Rating
    • B+
    • Few more uses than a foot WK, however still nothing to wright home about.
    • Use him as a cheap mobile hero to support you fast moving units.

  • Buffs
    • Legion of blood, Favored Retainers
      • Ignore neg modifiers.
    • Legion of Night, The Bait +1 save in first round.
    • Vyrkos, The Strength of the pack, +1 to wound.
    • Watch Captain Halgrim, Disciplined Advance, Auto run 4”
    • There are many other ways to Buff them with spells and abilities, however You should be using those focus buffs on more hard hitting units, (Grave Guard)
  • Who is better?
    • The Foot WK is a bit better in sustained Melee, however you really don’t want to use either of these that way. They can take out weak units and their high armor will keep them alive for a bit, when not focused. However there primary use is to be a hero and do Hero things. All that said, pay the 15 points and take the one on the steed. It is just better in almost every way.

Thanks for watching, Y’all be good.
