Color Guide: Comic Style Venom

This Color Guide is for Comic Style Venom for Marvel Crisis Protocol.

I was excited to build and paint venom, growing up he was one of my favorite comic characters. I looked at many versions of Venom and I was mostly focused on the different ways and colors that were used to highlight his black body. I think in the end I really like the dark greys that have been used over the last several years. However I thought it was not that classic style that I have used on many of the other models. Blue were very prevalent in his early art, but I did find a few examples of purple and decided this would have the best feel for what I was going for. I did not want to turn him into a grape so I settled on just one highlight of dark purple, “Naggaroth Night”. I think that this helped bring out the details of the model without making him look too clownish.

Building tips: Lots of seams to fill all over his body. I used the matt varnish technique. I even cut off a little of his internal connecting pegs and there was still lots of gaps to fill. be ready. Other than that he came together quit nicely.

Color Guide Purpose: To give painters a lists of paints that can be used to achieve a specific look on their miniatures.  The actual techniques I use can me modified based on the painters skill and desired effect. The hope is to save hobbyist time by providing examples of paint combinations they can use, eliminating the trial and error of finding the correct colors.
